The Paladins feel responsible for the fall of Atlantis, but Modd is was very surprised at the barriers' collapse. Perhaps you can find an answer with the Magic Academy.

You want to know what happened? Well, the Paladins have always kept an eye on the area surrounding the city, but we can't keep the monsters at bay by simply fighting them. We have long depended on the magic barrier. But what happened was that five huge monsters attacked the barrier all at once, causing it to fall, and then monsters flooded into the city. We fought those monsters that broke in, but the five huge monsters vanished somewhere. How could they have crushed the barrier so easily? Perhaps someone at the Magic Academy could tell you...

Quest Completion

Modd says he feels responsible for what happened? To be honest, I feel we at the Magic Academy are to blame for all this. It was our responsibility to maintain the barrier, and the energy for that came from Celebeam Gems. We thought that the energy in those gems could be beneficial to all warriors of Atlantis, and opened the cave where they're found to mining. Of course, no natural resource is unlimited, and when it ran out we were unable to keep the barrier at full strength.
