Muto read Apocalypse while researching the Devil Fruit and it states that any person who eats the Devil Fruit will gain the Gods' Force. But the Devil Fruit can't just be eaten. Juanmi, the ruler of the seas, cursed the fruit with the power of death. Muto is worried about this.

I wasn't making any headway when searching for a
way to Golden Island, so I started reading in
Apocalypse about the Devil Fruit you found in the
Bermuda Islands. We know you need to reach the
underworld to find Pandora's Box, and according to
the book, 'Any person who eats the Devil Fruit will
gain God's Force,' meaning they will become a
demigod. But, then it warns that Juanmi, the ruler of
the seas, cursed the Devil Fruit to bring death to
any who eat it!
